Benefits of shopping small on Black Friday

Black Friday is one of the busiest days of the year for e-commerce businesses, but with there being so much competition from big brands, we want to tell you the importance of shopping small...

1. We will look after you

Small business owners strive to survive and one of the biggest advantages they have over large retailers is the ability to provide more personable, hands-on, and memorable customer service.

2. We provide greater access to product diversity

Small businesses have just as much access to vendors (who also determine pricing, not stores) that big box businesses do. If a small business doesn’t have the products you want or need, ask them – they’re also usually much more receptive and willing to order them for you.

3. We are sustainable & offer products which are made in the UK

Many products these days are produced and made cheaply in places like China. however design and make our products here in the UK. Here, is where we print, for fill and deliver orders and produce products closer to the end consumer to significantly reduce carbon emissions.

4. Small businesses make a major economic impact

When you support a local business, you’re also supporting your town, city, and neighborhood. Business pay sales taxes to the city and county the business is located in. Stray to a big box business elsewhere and that money isn’t benefiting your community at all. Plus, that tax money is used to support public schools, parks, roads, and sidewalks, as well as fund public service workers, like firefighters.

What’s more, according to Civic Economics, “on average, 48% of each purchase at local independent businesses is recirculated locally, compared to less than 14% of purchases at chain stores.”

5. Supporting a family run business

Maintaining and growing a business is challenging. Supporting individual makers and family owned businesses (such as ourselves) is a way to acknowledge the risks they've taken. When their revenues increase, that also means it's likely that they would hire more employees. This is creating jobs within their neighbourhoods and improve the local economy.
